The dream of Bowls and Barrels was born out of adversity. Both our founding directors grew up in the harsh realities of rural Kenya where they witnessed firsthand the exploitation that small holder farmers suffered at the hands of greedy middle-men who bought the produce of their hard labour at throw away prices.

As a result, these hard working peasant farmers struggled to make ends meet and many were left destitute despite their dedication to growing quality food crops such as fruits and vegetables.

Sharing this common background, our directors came together with a mission to ending this vicious cycle of exploitation by organizing farmers into Common Interest Groups (CIGs) in order to give them a collective voice to articulate their issues and better their lives.

Bowls and Barrels was conceived as a solution provider that organized, trained and empowered these farmers by offering them premium prices for their high quality produce. Since inception we have strived to alleviate poverty at the local level hence providing the means for our rural families to meet their day to day expenses such as food, medicine, clothing, decent shelter and education and thereby allowing them to live in dignity.
